McKinley Morganfield, aka Muddy Waters, is one of the most influential music artists of all time. He grew up in the Mississippi Delta, and then moved north to Chicago to find fame and fortune in the music business. He is credited for “inventing electricity” by electrifying the blues, and eventually became known as the “Godfather of the Blues”. In the early 70’s, he discovered “God’s Country” and moved his family to Westmont, Illinois, which was his home from 1973 until he passed in 1983.
The Taste of Westmont honors his memory and the blues, by hosting a blues tribute on Sunday of the Taste. Well known Blues Artists, as well as local performers grace our stage each year to remember Muddy and the Blues–be sure not to miss our Muddy Waters Open Mic Blues Jam & Tribute, always held on Sunday during the Taste of Westmont!
